Babies Times FIVE

http://wilkinsonquints.blogspot.com

My sister in law sent me the link to this blog last night and I spent a good hour reading all of the entries from the very beginning, just fascinated by what this woman is experiencing. As the blog title states, it is a woman pregnant with quintuplets. Ack!! She is LDS and almost done with her pregnancy, but she has documented things pretty much from the beginning. What struck me was how the hand of the Lord has helped her from the very beginning. How things worked out with work, where family is located, and most importantly, her BODY. She has completed 33 weeks of pregnancy with five babies inside of her. All are healthy and almost normal singleton weight (EACH). And she has had very few complications, all things considered. I know people with one baby in them who are on equal bedrest and have more hospital visits than she has had (though she is in the hospital full time right now). I'm sure Heavenly Father has great things in store for those babies and their family. And if you don't have time to read all of the entries, she says in there that her doctor ORDERED her to try to consume 5000 calories every day. Studies showed that multiples born to women who consumed massive amounts of calories faired better, weighed more, and had fewer defects. Interesting, huh?

I was TAGGED! Complete the sentence...

My Roommates and I Once... got dressed in red long underwear from J. Crew (it even had a flap on the back) and put our hair in pigtails and went around to our male friends and sang "A Bushel and a Peck" on Sadie Hawkins Day. I think we even brought baked goods. I'm sure that was our saving grace.

Never In My Life Have I... mowed a lawn (Shannon, I thought I was the only one!!) or skied.

High School Was... uh, a learning experience. I went to two high schools and that allowed me to attempt to fix the mistakes I made at the first school. I changed aLOT between 9th and 12th grade. Not all was for the better, but I was much more confident (sometimes TOO confident) and much more willing to try new things.

When I'm Nervous I... dry heave. Thank goodness I don't get very nervous very often.

My Hair Is... needing to be colored. Lots of wirey grays making their presence known.

When I was Five... I lived in Spokane, Washington. My best friend was Chrissy Nelson and we used to love to go to ballet at the Y and swing on the swing set. My arch enemies were Lexi and Nichole who lived up the street and were mean to me and never wanted to play with me.

When I Turn my Head Left... I see a shelf full of puzzles, coloring books, and Jillise showing me the bloody hole where her tooth used to be.

I Should Be... doing anything other than this. Folding laundry, thawing meat for dinner, taking a nap... the possibilities are endless.

By This Time Next Year... I will still be wasting time on the computer while I should be folding clothes or thawing meat for dinner.

My Favorite Aunt Is... I have to choose? I have 11 of them and they are all super fun.

I Have a Hard Time Understanding... Math or Science. I am smart. I really am. But I am so right brained and visual that I really have a hard time getting my head around conceptual things like that.

You Know I Like You If... I let you see my house when it is an absolute disaster area.

My Ideal Breakfast Is... the Grand Slam from Dennys. I love french toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, OJ, the works. I would eat breakfast food every meal of the day if I could. I think.

If You Visit My Hometown... let me know! I don't really have a hometown. I was born in North Dakota, moved to Sacramento when I was 1, moved to Spokane when I was 4 or something like that, to Okinawa when I was 7, to Norfolk, VA when I was 11, to Washington D.C when I was 12, to Rome, NY when I was 15, and to O'Fallon, IL when I was 18. I don't really have a home!

If You Spend the Night at My House... you can stay up late to play Settlers of Catan. After that you get the blowup bed in the toy room. You have to share a bathroom with the girls, but I promise to clean it before you come.

My Favorite Blond is... Emily (not counting my family, of course).

The Animal I Would Like to See Flying is... humans. I would LOVE to fly!

Last Night I... went to Bunco and won a prize for Most Losses. It is the first legitimate prize I have won in almost two years of playing!! Afterwards I went to Walmart to buy cheap school supplies.

A Better Name for Me would Be... Um, that's hard. I am Paige. I have always been Paige. I didn't like the name when I was younger because it was too different. But I think that your name plays a big part in who you become. So I am a Paige. :)

I've Been Told I look Like... That blond girl with the short hair from Goonies.

I tag Emily, Gloria, and Jodi. You're it!!!

Update on Life

*WHEW*

This past weekend was a total blur. So much going on, so many great experiences, so little time to sit down and blog about it. But today is 70 degrees and rainy and there is no reason to be outside so I am going to try to get caught up.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. The play opened last Thursday and it is FANTASTIC. If you live around here and you haven't been yet, you need to go. I have seen it three times and I can't wait to go again. The people on stage and behind the scenes have worked so hard and I am just so pleased that the final product shows their hard work and dedication. There are four more shows to go -- this Thursday, Friday, and two shows on Saturday. I get to be an usher on closing night. Weeee!

BREAKFAST BALL. Somehow I got myself involved in the character breakfast for the show. Three hours on Friday was spent decorating the Commons area of the high school to look like an outdoor garden party. A professional photographer came to set up a nice castle background to take pictures. We had a catered breakfast, servers, a sound system, and about 50 kids and parents. All of the main castle characters came and circulated and signed autographs and posed for pictures. It was SO great. Mrs. Potts sang the theme song from the show and Belle and the Beast danced and then half way through they grabbed kids to waltz with. Beast grabbed Jillise and she was just beaming with excitement and embarrassment. I just wish I had my camera. We had asked people not to bring cameras out of curteousy to the professional, but no one else listened. Of course *I* follow the rules and I miss it. The breakfast ball was also on Joelle's birthday and when Babette (the feather duster) found out she hauled Joelle up on the platform and Gaston lifted her up on a chair and they all sang her happy birthday. I about cried. At the end Lumiere made his candle hand flicker (that sounds dumb, but it looks real) and he had her blow out the candle. It was SO darling and I'm so happy that she got to experience that. GRANDMA AND GRANDPA. My parents drove down for the weekend to be there for birthdays and the show. My mom brought the girls to the Breakfast Ball (since I was running around trying to keep things organized), then we all went to the matinee of the show (minus Jaren who stayed with a friend who I owe about 20 babysitting hours to).
JOELLE'S BIRTHDAY. Joelle turned four. She has informed me the she will no longer be bossy because she is four. Um, okay. We'll see about that. After the matinee she had her friends Maddie and Karlee over to play and for cake and icecream. She had a cupcake cake from Safeway (I just did NOT have time to bake and decorate a cake this weekend) and she got some very fun gifts. It was the perfect party for me -- the girls played outside, ate pizza, very low stress. I called it an "un-party."
JAREN'S BIRTHDAY. Jaren turned one on Sunday. I can't believe it has been a year already. He didn't know what to think of the cake, he mostly made a mess and didn't eat much. Fine by me. If I remember correctly, Joelle ate so much of hers when she turned one that she had really gross diapers the next day. Unfortunately, all of the hustle and bustle of the previous days left him very overwhelmed and clingy. On top of that, he had a gross runny nose. We didn't even bother trying to have him do his cake on Saturday while my parents were here. He went to bed an hour early.
REGULAR LIFE. The girls are in week two of swimming lessons and both are doing really well. Especially Jillise. I taught her to hum when she goes underwater instead of blowing bubbles (which just blows air up your nose) and from that point on she hasn't been afraid to go under. Today she was swimming to the wall and picking things up off of the bottom of the pool (with goggles on). Joelle is progressing, but is still not quite there yet.

Jaren had his Early Intervention screening today and the administrator thinks that he will qualify for services for his lapses in gross motor skills. He seems to be on track in everything else, but he is still not pulling up to a stand, or cruising, or crawling. She feels that with some "tricks of the trade" (as she called them) he will be caught up in no time. I hope so. He goes in for a full evaluation on Tuesday. All the ladies that worked there came in to meet him and he just ate it up. He is such a flirt.

I think that's about it. Tonight is Bunco and I am SO excited for a big girl break. I have had breaks from my kids lately, but it always seems to be so I can run errands or go get other things done. It will be nice to just PLAY.

Jaren's First Haircut

Jaren got his first haircut today. It is such a cruel trick of fate that he has enough hair to GET cut before his first birthday while the girls were still working on little wispies at this point. But anyway, he did GREAT. My friend Dana has a little salon in her house and she did the honors. I got him up from a nap to make the appointment, so I think he was just a bit out of it. But it helped. He kept wanting to see the clippers so he would turn his head to try to see what she was doing. But he didn't cry, didn't fight it. Just sat there. It's amazing how much more grown up he looks without the long hair on top and on the sides. And it will be easier to clean the cake out of it this weekend. :)

Back from Grandmas

We are back from our fairly spontaneous trip to Grandma and Grandpa's house. Brian wasn't able to make it due to work and the show but I went against my better judgement and made the four hour drive anyway. The kids were actually pretty good in the car, we made good time, and the trip was a nice get away from the everyday. Here's a rundown of our activities. Oh -- and if you want to stop the music from playing so you can hear the videos better, just scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and press pause.

Jaren cut his top two teeth. For some reason my children prefer to do all their painful teething at someone else's house.

The girls exhausted themselves on the Bounce N Slide.

Jaren learned that he LOVES to play the piano.

We went to lots of parks and playgrounds.

Joelle and Jillise rode the zipline swing at one park and LIKED it.

We went to the library and got some fun new books to read with Grandma.

We went to the river with Uncle Johnny to feed the geese, throw rocks in the water, and look for arrowheads.

We went to Aunt Katie's new house to visit the cute turtles.

We went to the fun new water park:

And we got so tired that we had to take lots of naps.

And lastly, here is a video of Jaren dancing. It isn't from our trip, but it is too dang cute to not include. I was watching Ellen today and Jaren was having fun destroying his play area (you'll notice his destructive abilities in the movie). The music comes where Ellen dances through the audience and I started dancing and being silly and Jaren joined in. My camera was on the counter, so I grabbed it to get it on film. The camera is shakey because I am trying to dance to get him to do it again. I'll leave it to your imagination to picture what THAT looked like. :)
