A few weeks ago I was at the post office and parked next to me was a really nice 2008 Ford Mustang. Red, with leather seats, fancy rims, the works. As I was getting kids in the car, the owner of the car came and got in. It was a 60 year old (give or take five years) woman, with nicely done hair and attractive clothing. Not one of those women who is trying to look 30, but just someone who is well taken care of and enjoying her empty nest years.
It got me thinking: What do I see myself driving in 30 years, when the kids are gone, I am a grandma, and it is just Brian and I? Assuming that money wasn't an issue, what would I choose? Would I drive a minivan like my mom? She is SO excited to have a minivan that she can fit her grandkids in. There is a grandma in our ward that drives a pimped out 2007 Suburban. Will that be me? Driving a sportscar like the woman at the post office? I don't see myself as a pickup driver. Or driving a Cadillac. A zippy little jetta? What would I choose?
I still don't know the answer. I think I would go for some sort of luxury midsize sedan. Like a Passat (although we learned the hard way to avoid VWs -- to expensive to fix). Brian sees himself in an Audi or a BMW.
How about you? What do you see yourself driving when you don't have to drive kids anywhere and it is just you and your hubby?

It's almost hard to imagine not having to constantly lug kids in and out of the car! I'd have to say I'd want to be driving something fun and comfortable, don't know exactly what that would be, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it! :) I think I'm with Brian, an Audi or BMW sounds good.:)
I've never really been much of a car person, but some sort of little economical hybrid sounds good. Gas will probably cost $10 a gallon by the time the kids are all gone.
I don't know -- I'm not much of a car person. I would probably choose to drive a fun sedan-type car (nothing boat-like) or one of the small sporty SUVs. I don't desire anything too fancy, just something cute and fun!
I'm not much of a car person either. In fact I've never thought about it until Enrichment the other night. I still don't know, but definitely NOT a minivan;)
Um, either a 1980 or 1981 white corvette like my mom had until my little brother was born and they sold it (I LOVED THAT CAR even though I was pint sized).
OR
a 911 twin turbo from 1996-1998
OR
if I don't have one of those, I won't really care. And chances are at that point, I will just continue to be practical.
But for now...a girl can dream, right?
PS My Dad used to race cars (I think it was porsche exclusively) as a hobby. My mom used to drag race. My brother (for a hobby) races cars now. So, I come by it honestly.
No matter what I say I know my husband will only stand for it if it is a volvo :) I am with you on the concern for the cost of repairs, you want to talk expensive to fix? Ever driven a volvo?
I was laughing at this conversation at enrichment. I laugh now only because I have never thought of not being in a mini-van, a sports car could bring trouble! I'd be peeling out and weaving in traffic, oh dear, the thought! LOL I have no clue. I'll hsve to research this. Maybe an AUDI...
Well I know Andy had always wanted an Infinity and now that he has one he will probably always have one...me on the other I don't really care. I do love a good mercedes when I see one, but I certainly do not need on. In fact I much rather have an extra 700 a month to spend on important things than a car payment. Who knows...
I'm with Brian, an Audi would be nice. I also like the Volvo SUV...FULLY LOADED, of course ;)
