Girly Day

Yesterday my mom came into town and we met up with my sister to have an all day (and night) Girls Day. It was so fun and very needed. We started off with lunch at Applebees, the rode the Max to IKEA for some browsing. And lots and lots of walking.

The Three Amigos

Waiting for the Train

At IKEA

Then we rode into town to peruse the largest independent bookstore in the country (an entire city block, with multiple floors) and to go to P.F. Changs for dinner.

Mmmm... Lettuce Wraps

Then the highlight of the evening and the reason for the get-together: the Super Diamond concert.

A little background. My family has Neil Diamond in our blood. My parents went to one of his concerts when they were first married. When we were growing up the ONLY tapes we would listen to on road trips was Neil Diamond. And we had ALL the tapes -- even the obscure ones. My little brother could sing Sweet Caroline and Comin' to America before he could sing his ABCs. Our ENTIRE family attended one of his concerts when I was in highschool. And we all sang along. Every single one of us. Even me.

Evidently there are other rabid Neil fans out there because Super Diamond is a wildly popular and successful Neil Diamond cover band. The guy sounds SO much like the real thing and he wears sparkly shirts and the band has mutton chops and other classy 70 hairdos and outfits. The crowd was one of the most eclectic mixes of people I have ever seen. There were people older than my mother. There were LOTS of people my age. There were people who were probably barely old enough to get into the club. There were packs of single men there to hit on the groups of single gals. And EVERYBODY was singing along. It was SO fun. It was at a club, so there was just the stage and a huge open area. I was standing and dancing for three straight hours and even after my meal at PF Changs I was down a pound this morning. I may need to go to more concerts.

I tried to take some video with my camera, but the sound was horrible I was moving so much that the picture would give you vertigo. So enjoy this clip from YouTube of a Super Diamond concert in Seattle. Notice how crazy the crowd is going. It was like that here, too. ;) Don't forget to mute the OTHER fantastic Neil Diamond song playing on my playlist down below.

The concert got out after midnight and we took the train back to Megan's house and had a little slumber party so I wouldn't have to drive the hour home in the middle of the night. It was way fun and we need to do it again. Utah friends: Super Diamond is doing a concert in Salt Lake soon. Go. You will NOT be sorry.

Hey, I didn't know you are a Neil Diamond Fan - something else we have in common. The Jazz Singer is one of my favorite movies - not because it's a great story or anything - I just like the music! And I remember wearing out the Jonathan Livingston Seagull record or 8-track - whatever we had it on when I was growing up...
I'm glad you had a good time with your mom and sister!

That sounds like SO much fun! I don't know much about Neil Diamond, but the whole day sounds awesome. Love lettuce wraps, and I still have not been to IKEA (ever).
Glad you got to spend an action-packed day with the girls. :)

I don't think I really know who he is, but I bet if I heard his music I would. How fun that you had a girly day! You can't beat a trip to IKEA and PF Changs!!! We almost had lettuce wraps the other night, but there was a line out the door. I have been craving them lately!!!

And, WTG on the weight loss!!! Holy moly you are inspiring...seriously, what is your secret missy? I guess you just have amazing self discipline, which I so totally lack these days. Anyways, I'm super proud of you!!!

That sounds like a blast. What a fun memory. I can't remember the last time the girls in my family did something together. We all live too far apart!
