"My" white chili won the chili cookoff this year. Woo hoo!! Never mind that the Elders Quorum presidency were the judges. Brian said he took himself out of the vote. I won the world's largest Mum. Seriously. It's huge. It is taking up most of my porch. I love it.
Anyway, many of you asked for the recipe and since it's not some top secret family recipe and since I won this year and will have to come up with something different for next year, here it is. I got it from Taste of Home magazine seven years ago. You can make this really low fat by using fat free sour cream and fat free half and half instead of the whipping cream in the last step.
Creamy White Chili
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 medium onion, chopped
1 1/2 t garlic powder
1 T vegetable oil
2 cans (15 1/2 oz each) great northern beans, rinsed and drained (Safeway doesn't carry this kind of bean, I just used white beans this last time and it was fine.)
1 can (14 1/2 oz) chicken broth
2 cans (4 oz each) chopped green chilies
1 t salt
1 t ground cumin
1 t dried oregano
1/2 t pepper
1/4 t cayenne pepper
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup whipping cream
In a large saucepan, saute chicken, onion, and garlic powder in oil until chicken is no longer pink. Add beans, broth, chilies, and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes. Remove from the heat. Stir in sour cream and cream. Serve immediately. Makes 7 servings.

Sounds yummy! We always have a party on Halloween and it is tradition to have chili. I might just make a pot of this. Congrats!
I'll have to make this from now on -- my chili is only fit to pave the driveway with! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Thanks for the recipe! My kiddos will be excited....and BTW, I'll have them say hi to good ol' AFJR!
Congratulations!
That sounds super yummy, and if it didn't mean getting up and going to the store to buy some of the ingredients, I'd totally make it right this minute. :)
Thanks for the recipe! I remember it from last year and was really sad I didn't get a bowl of it this year:( Congrats on the mum...you should make sure there aren't any burglers hiding behind it when you go in your door. The thing was huge!
So glad you've joined the Holiday Hostess Flirty Apron Swap!
Yay!! Thanks for sharing, I can't wait to whip this recipe up. You know I had to actually cut in line in order to get a bowl. But, when you work on the activities committee, you can kind of get away with it ;)
Oh yummy, I can't wait to make some. So how many people did it take to get that mum home?! That was enourmous! You should post a picture.
Thanks for the recipe because I didn't get any this year!
Your white chili recipe is very close to mine, which will be entered into our ward chili cook off this Saturday. My kids love it!!! I'll have to try yours!!
